A well kept secret of University City (until the past year) was a midnight snack that everybody wants. Geared toward all types of students, from those who need a study break to those who were definitely not studying, Insomnia Cookies deliver freshly baked cookies late into the night.
According to their website, insomnia Cookies was an idea developed in 2003 by students at the University of Pennsylvania. Initially a small operation, the idea grew and soon they found themselves delivering cookies all around the university. As time went on, the business became even larger and they delivered to most of University City.
Today, the cookie business is good. Joining the ranks of the food trucks in Philadelphia, Insomnia Cookies is now a presence on Drexel University’s campus. The truck is a new addition to the business within the past year, expanding the hours you can get your cookie fix! Delivery is available after 7pm, but the truck starts serving the treats at noon.
Parked strategically in front of the university’s library, this truck is huge- they even bake the cookies right inside the truck! They must need a little extra space inside the truck for the ovens because it is much larger than the usual food truck. Certainly you can’t miss it- it’s bright purple!
The cookies sell for just $1 for your basic chocolate chip, peanut butter, M&M, or even white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. A few more specialty cookies are just a bit more and usually they feature a good deal if you’re buying a bunch for a study group or your office.
If you find yourself near 33rd and Market Street and in need of a sugar jolt, stop at this truck! Whatever your favorite is, Insomnia Cookies has your flavor and it’s warm! Oh and don’t worry, if you need to drink milk with your cookies you won’t have to walk to the next truck to get it. Insomnia’s got you covered.
